Innovative thinking in a construction site
Finnfoam Oy is a family company founded in 1982 and based in Salo in southern Finland. Finnfoam manufactures mainly Finnfoam thermal insulation boards. In the summer of 2012 the company started to expand its production and warehouse premises in the Salo factory in the Meriniitty industrial area. The new premises in Salo consist of alltogether 14 000 m2 of space. The lighting of the project was solved by assembling the lights to be used in the production halls as soon as the foundation was done and the rafters were up. The same lights, Easy LED PRO 500 luminaires, work out both as building lights and as final indoor lights in the finished hall. Easy LED PRO 500 lights are primarily used for industrial lighting but they can just as well be used in outdoors as area lighting.
By using the final luminaires in the construction phase, Finnfoam is saving the rental cost of the building lights and also in energy consumption. 14 units of PRO 500 series luminaires were installed in the first phase, covering approximately 4000 m2 and they are lightning that area completely. When the construction work progresses more lights will be installed. All luminaires installed during the construction phase will be used permanently once the buildings are completed.
We asked from the CEO of Finnfoam, Mr. Henri Nieminen, how are the lights performing in the cold outdoors in the middle of a construction site with all the dust and tremor? He told us in full confidence that ”these lights have been successfully tested even in the sand desert, so they function perfectly also in a Finnish construction site”.
The work in Meriniitty will continue at least for another year. Before the summer of 2013 the new manufacturing premises should be ready and after the summer the warehouse should be in use too. Savings of approximately 1500€ will accumulate already in the first four months merely from not having to rent the building lights. The energy consumption savings during that time are estimated to be 350€.
