New LED-streetlighting for City of Turku
City of Turku, with 200 000 inhabitants, located in southern Finland, continues its project of switching streetlight to energy-efficient and long-lasting LED-light. During the year 2013 Turku will install about 2600 new lighting fixtures. Saves in energy consumption are remarkable, as LEDs are running with 70 percent less power than old mercury-vapor lamps.
Saves costs
In a city of Turku's size, there are a lot of streetlights. Lights are on approximately 4000 hours in a year. With the new LED technology, electricity saved will be 1.386.000 kWh in one year. That is about the same as 600-700 one bedroom apartments would consume during a year.
Easy LED Oy will supply lighting fixtures to Turku
New LED lighting fixtures will be manufactured by Easy LED Oy. As a pioneers of the industry, Easy LEDs expertise is based on innovation where problems concerning heat and current controlling of a LED ran in high power are solved. This makes it possible to develop top-emitting street and industry lighting fixtures and powering them up straight from mains electricity.
Energy efficiency is high in Turku
Turku is the first city in Finland making a major change to LED technology. The Energy Efficiency Agreement signed by Turku requires lowering energy consumption by 9 percent before 2016, compared to 2005 consumption. Switching outdoor lighting fixtures is part of ESCO project.
